Chapter 7
Nemea, the Monster

  “Well, it’s been a nice day, see ya tomorrow!”, Vernon said farewell to the other cops, “Hm, it’s really nice to see the bright city lights from this view from the apartment”. Vernon enjoyed seeing the gleaming lights from the buildings, especially the taller ones, as he walks back to the apartment, though his long time at his work bugged him. “I don’t see the point of being in the investigation at all, we didn’t even get a lot of evidence to push it further. Just a waste. Thankfully, I can get a longer break and introduce the city to Aero and Nemea”, Vernon said thoughts out loud to himself, “You know, come to think of it, I wonder how those two are doing. I wonder if- nah, I’m being a little nasty there”. Vernon just peacefully walks to his apartment, and just when he sees it at a far distance, he heard screaming, “That sounds like Aero. Sounds nearby actually, what’s he doing outside?”, Vernon asked to himself. He then saw Aero running to one of the alleys to hide in, alongside with Nemea chasing him to the same alley. Vernon was concerned of what’s happening, especially seeing Nemea chasing him like a four legged animal. Vernon then goes to the alley, seeing Nemea from a distance. He’s already freaked out by Nemea’s behavior, as if she really is some kind of animal. Nemea is looking around, finding Aero, who’s behind piles of boxes.

  Nemea is almost close spotting Aero, however Vernon walked a little forward, trying to be brave, “Hey Nemea! Whatcha looking for?”, Vernon asked, pretending if Nemea is the Nemea he knew. This caught Nemea’s attention, facing back, showing her monstrous look to Vernon. Vernon screamed in fear and fainted at the sight of what he just saw. Nemea was about to attack him, but somehow managed to turn back to normal, losing her monstrous features. Aero steps out of the boxes, slowly approaching Nemea, “Nemea?”, Aero said. Nemea turned around, showing that she lost her monstrous looks and regained the personality that Aero knew since he first met her, “Um… h-hey Aero”, said Nemea nervously. Aero still looked at her, still horrified. Nemea realized that Aero knew what just happened, seeing that she transformed into the creature that chased him. Nemea looked down, feeling guilty. Aero, trying to have the thought that Nemea is still the girl he knew since his first day in Neon Metallon, he calmly took her back to the apartment, along with both of them carrying Vernon, who still passed out. He hasn’t said anything to her, causing Nemea to fear if Aero might do something bad to her. At the entrance, a bunch of police were being told what happened by few of the apartment’s workers. The two overheard them, saying things about a creature running passed them. Though much to Nemea’s relief, they never knew what she looked like. The two just passed by, arriving to Vernon’s home.

  The next morning, the two woke up early and went to Vernon’s bedroom, waiting in front of Vernon for him to wake up. “We’re going to talk about this when he wakes up, okay? Don’t be afraid, I’m not mad at you or anything, but it’s just something I wanted to know”, Aero said calmly to Nemea. Nemea nodded, relieved for Aero taking this easily. Vernon wakes up, slowly opens his eyes. When he fully woke up, he first looked at Nemea. He then got scared and backed a little, “Y-you’re not going to hurt me… r-right?!”, Vernon said in fear. “Take it easy Vern”, said Aero, “It’s alright”. Vernon calmed down a bit, “Whoo! You guys can’t believe what I dreamt of. I saw Aero getting chased by-“. “Nemea who turned into a monstrous creature with dark patterns on her body, claws, chased me like a wild four-legged animal”, Aero interruptedly explained, “And it’s not a dream. If it weren’t, I’d let you keep talking about it”. Vernon was speechless for a few seconds, “Don’t worry, she’s not gonna kill you. She tried to kill you, but she changed her mind. Well, that’s how I put it that way”, Aero said, “I talked to her about what happened. Apparently, time to time, she turns into a monster. It’s not something she can control on her will, so it’s like something that happens randomly time to time. She also admitted that she leaves at the middle of night to let the creature do what it wanted it to do. Though she overcame the creature when it was about to attack you. And well, that’s it. She doesn’t know what’s happening to her, well as she can’t recall”.

  “Vernon”, said Nemea still feeling guilty what happened last night, “You’re not going to tell the policemen this, right? Please, I’m sorry”. Vernon was planning to tell them, though he’d feel guilty to do that. “No way. Aero and I liked you since day 1”, said Vernon, “On top of that, I’d be taking you away, a monster, which would be taking away a nice kind girl. Seeing that you can resist the creature last night, maybe you can hold it down all day, right?”. Nemea felt happy hearing that and hugged him. Aero smiled at the sight, though also wanted to know more of Nemea and her monstrous counterpart. “You know guys”, Nemea said, “I’ve been wondering. You think there’s another person like me? I mean, literally”. The two guys were surprised by the question, Vernon made a disagreement gesture. Aero, however, actually began to wonder if there’s actually is a creature like Nemea around here.
